| About Diwan El Lajoun Theatre
Diwan El Lajoun Theatre was established in November 2000 by actor Ghassan Abbas, in order to serve as the cultural and educational center for the local community. It is the only theatre in Umm el Fahm, the second largest Palestinian city inside the Green Line, and its surrounding area. The theatre directs its work to a heterogeneous audience that assembles people of all ages and classes, women and men, Jews and Arabs.
Goals
To serve as a cultural and educational center for the community of Umm el Fahm and the surrounding area.
Activities
- Production of so-far two theatre performances: “God Save Me From My Homeland” and “Pictures”;
- Arrangement of so-far two festivals, the “Palestinian Film Festival” and the “Summer Festival of Arts”;
- Hosting of so-far more than 70 plays and theatre works, more than 50 musical concerts, 4 painting exhibitions and a considerable number of cultural events focusing on literature and poetry;
- Hosting of conferences and study days, such as the “Women Conference”;
- Workshops and community work for the Umm el Fahm community, focusing on women and elderly people.
