About The Association

The Association for the Defense of the Rights of Internally Displaced Persons in Israel works to research and defend the rights of the internally displaced, approximately 250,000 Palestinian citizens of Israel, or around one quarter of the Palestinian-Israeli population. The organization's main achievement has been placing the rights of the uprooted at the forefront of the agenda of the Palestinian minority in Israel. In 1995, the organization brought together 280 representatives of 30 destroyed villages in a forum to let their voices be heard in unison.

Goal

The return of displaced Palestinians within the Green Line to their villages and homes which they were expelled from, in accordance with UN resolution 194.

Main Activities

  • Sponsor and organize Land Day events in the uprooted villages each year;
  • Hold lectures and panel discussions;
  • Work in schools, libraries, universities, and through the media;
  • On the local and national level the committee works to clean up the cemeteries and restore destroyed mosques and churches;
  • Supports research on uprooted and destroyed villages since 1948;
  • Collects and files documents, aerial pictures, and maps of uprooted and destroyed villages;
  • Collects statistics and information on displaced persons in Israel, their properties, where they currently reside, and where, exactly, they came from.
