About the Fund of El Haji Roqueia Bayadseh for Support to Arab Students
Established in 1989, the Fund for the Support to Arab Students is a registered, non-political, and non-profit organization, with its office in the El Wafa El Amal Association in Baka El Gharbiyya.
Goals
The main goal of the Fund is to financially support promising young Arab students to allow them to continue their studies at the university level. The Fund also promotes the benefits of higher education by holding or sponsoring courses, study-days, and guidance workshops to encourage high school students to pursue university and/or professional training. In addition, the Fund holds mutual visits and operates programs to bring students together from the Arab and Jewish communities which promote understanding and peaceful coexistence.
Activities
Since its inception, the Fund has directly aided more than 500 students through scholarships, and has reached hundreds of others through its programs. The Fund gives to students from all sectors of the Arab community.
The Fund is primarily supported by local individuals. Its founder and principal contributor is Roqueia Bayadseh, who, after 38 years of teaching, created the fund in order to help the many gifted Arab students who cannot afford university education due to their low economic status. Recently, the Fund has also received contributions from the government and from individual overseas donors.
The Fund seeks to increase the scope of its activities and the number of students it reaches through increased donations and support. The Fund firmly believes that the strengthening and promotion of educational opportunities, and the ability for students to further their education is the key to the most positive development of Arab citizens of Israel.
