About
Dar al-Tifl al-Arabi al-Muthalath al-Shamali

The philosophy of Dar al-Tifl al-Arabi al-Muthalath al-Shamali is the child is at the center. Our enrichment programs focus on the child as the central element of the educational process, thus raising their self confidence and sense of responsibility. Teachers act as facilitators who guide the children and help them find their own answers. We have become of the country's most important resource centers for early childhood educational materials in Arabic. In the future, we plan to establish a new Eco-School Center for primary school students. According to the time schedule the construction phase should be from the gaining of 2004 to August of 2005.

Goals

To improve educational quality for Arab children ages 3 months to 12 years.

Main Activities

  • Forging partnerships with parents, families and community: we involve families and members of the community in planning and implementing our programs and activities, and conduct regular meetings to that end;
  • Environmental consciousness: children plan and raise gardens; they examine the natural world - the properties of stone, word or earth; the spend time with older members of the community, learning about traditional occupations and customs. Environmental awareness is as basic to their school day as paint and paper;
  • Empowerment of Arab women: we are administered and staffed by women. Training sessions, workshops and evening activities encourage women in the community to grow professionally and personally;
  • Ecological educational projects: for teachers, children, parents and the community;
  • Annual art exhibition; an annual art exhibition of the children's work in sculpture, painting, collage and building drawls visitors form around the country. The exhibition has grown into nationwide event;
  • Our 60 staff members work with 450 children; its facilities and activities include:
  • Ten regional daycare centers;
  • Five regional nursery schools
  • A preschool program;
  • Evening enrichment classes for parents, women and community members of all ages. Women's workshops include issues of women's empowerment;
  • Training programs for caregivers and teachers.
